First FH Diamond bull calf leaves the MARA - March 2009

Mr Philip Timbury from Chapel Farm, Boston, Lincs, has purchsed MARA ENSIGN at 13 months of age for his HORNCASTLE Herefords.  ENSIGN was a beautifully fleshed dark young bull sired  FH Diamond out of Mara Model 15.  He is a heifer's first calf and the first of FH Diamond's sons to be sold.

In 2009 I judged the Autumn Show & Sale at Hereford and put Spinney Dublin as my Champion Male.  After the event, while looking up his extended pedigree I see that on the dam's side he goes back to the Mara Dowagers' which were purchased from here.  Dublin's great grand dam was Spinney Dowager K4 who was by Mara Glamour our of Mara Dowager G14.  This female line has always bred strong cattle with little waste and low fat deposition.  It was pleasing to see the line breeding well for a fellow breeder.  My congratulations to Richard for his win.

Autumn 2009

Summer 2009

Another Mara bull has been hedge hopping this summer, Bullseye was loaned to A. G. Wright & Sons as they were short on bull power, but has since returned to Louise and William Bevin's herd in Oakham.  He was another great bull out of Bonny T6, who is the grand dam of Mara Excel.   Bonny T6 is now a ten year old with nine calves to her credit - not bad !! Her first daughter was sold at the 2006 Mara Reduction Sale.  Her first son, Mara Warrior, was champion at the Spring Show & Sale, Hereford and went onto Bovey Herefords.  Five daughters remain at the Mara and one son was culled because he got hurt.  You might guess she is a firm favourite with us.  By the way - she had twins by Diamond this year, thus the nine calves in ten years.
